Scope and Contents Hugh Scott of Draycott (Draycot, Draycote) House, a Captain in the East India Marine, was a son of Walter Scott of Raeburn (died 1830) and cousin of Sir Walter Scott of Abbotsford. Scope and Contents The collection was begun in the late nineteenth century and continued in the twentieth, being entrusted to Ian Scobie in 1944 (MS.22130, folio 2). Correspondence of Thomas Graham is chiefly with his factor, Henry Burt, concerning his estate of Balgowan, but includes also some letters from eminent friends and acquaintances not included in MSS.3590-3645. There are also papers of Mrs M E Maxtone Graham concerning the publication of her book ‘The beautiful Mrs Graham’, and typescript material and correspondence concerning a projected book on Lord Lynedoch.

Scope and Contents Archibald Campbell, who entered the Indian Civil Service and retired as Judge of the High Court of Lahore, was the youngest son of John Campbell of Kilberry, and Secretary of the Music Committee of the Piobaireachd Society. The material is arranged tune by tune, approximately in the order of appearance in ‘Ceol mor’ by C S Thomason, and consists of copies of the text of each piobaireachd from all authoritative sources, both printed (including some proof sheets) and manuscript....

The manuscript is inscribed: ‘Coningesby—Given me by Mr. Archer March—1752. Wrote by Thos. Foxton’. An article from ‘Notes and Queries’, 2nd series, volume ii, page 321, is inserted at folio i. The manuscript of this article, which is initialled J O, and a note on Thomas Foxton by Alexander Gardyne, are attached to the end-papers at the beginning of the volume.
